ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze and compare the differences between the epidemiological data and clinical indicators of confirmed and suspected undiagnosed cases of COVID-19 in Changning District, Shanghai. Methods:A retrospective comparative study was conducted. We included 20 confirmed and 34 suspected but undiagnosed COVID-19 cases from January 20 to February 29, 2020. We analyzed the differences in epidemiological history, early clinical symptoms, blood routine indicators, and clinical imaging characteristics between the two groups. Results:The epidemic status of COVID-19 in Changning District of Shanghai was mainly imported, and most cases were promptly confirmed. Early clinical symptoms of confirmed and suspected undiagnosed cases often manifested as respiratory symptoms such as fever and dry cough. Compared with the confirmed cases, the cell counts of leukocytes, eosinophils, and neutrophils in suspected undiagnosed cases were significantly higher. Also, the concentration of serum C-reactive protein in suspected cases was higher than that in confirmed cases (P=0.230). The clinical imaging manifestations of confirmed cases were mainly ground glass opacity (GGO) scattered in both lung leaves, while the suspected undiagnosed cases mainly manifested as plain patch opacity, and the distribution of GGO was more irregular. Conclusion:There exists significant difference in blood routine indicators and clinical imaging features between confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

Objective We aimed to assess the association between urinary bisphenol A(BPA)concentrations and gestational age in pregnant women. Methods A total of 248 pregnant women were recruited from a maternal and child care hospital in Shanghai. A questionnaire survey was completed to collect socio-demographic information and spot urine samples were collected during pregnancy. Gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(GC-MS/MS)was used to measure BPA concentrations in urine samples. Linear relationship between urinary BPA level and gestational age was assessed by using generalized additive models. Multivariate regression model was used to evaluate associations of prenatal BPA exposure with gestational age. Results BPA was detected in all the urine samples. Median value and geometric mean of urinary BPA levels were 0.85 μg/L and 1.21 μg/L, respectively. Linear relationship between urinary BPA concentration and gestational weeks was confirmed(non-linear P > 0.05). Positive association between urinary BPA level and gestational age was indicated(regression coefficient, β = 0.19;95%CI:0.04-0.35;P = 0.016). However, it was only observed in girls, stratified by sex of newborns(β = 0.18;95%CI:0.03-0.34;P = 0.020). After stratification by trimester, no significant association was found in the second or the third trimesters. Conclusion Pregnant women are extensively exposed to BPA. Urinary BPA exposure during pregnancy may extend gestational age, especially in girls.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To help selecting appropriate meridians and acupoints in clinical practice and experimental study for Parkinson's disease (PD), the rules of meridians and acupoints selection of acupuncture and moxibustion were analyzed in domestic and foreign clinical treatment for PD based on data mining techniques.@*METHODS@#Literature about PD treated by acupuncture and moxibustion in China and abroad was searched and selected from China National Knowledge Infrastructure and MEDLINE. Then the data from all eligible articles were extracted to establish the database of acupuncture-moxibustion for PD. The association rules of data mining techniques were used to analyze the rules of meridians and acupoints selection.@*RESULTS@#Totally, 168 eligible articles were included and 184 acupoints were applied. The total frequency of acupoints application was 1,090 times. Those acupoints were mainly distributed in head and neck and extremities. Among all, Taichong (LR 3), Baihui (DU 20), Fengchi (GB 20), Hegu (LI 4) and Chorea-tremor Controlled Zone were the top five acupoints that had been used. Superior-inferior acupoints matching was utilized the most. As to involved meridians, Du Meridian, Dan (Gallbladder) Meridian, Dachang (Large Intestine) Meridian, and Gan (Liver) Meridian were the most popular meridians.@*CONCLUSIONS@#The application of meridians and acupoints for PD treatment lay emphasis on the acupoints on the head, attach importance to extinguishing Gan wind, tonifying qi and blood, and nourishing sinews, and make good use of superior-inferior acupoints matching.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To improve the quality standard for Qiwei maqianzi pills.METHODS:TLC was used for the qualitative identification of Chebulae Fmctus and Aucklandiae Radix in the preparation.HPLC method was used for the content determination of hydroxy safflor yellow A,brucine and strychnine in preparation.The determination was performed on Phenomenex Prodigy C18 column with mobile phase consisted of methanol-acetonitrile-0.7% phosphoric acid soulution(26 ∶ 2 ∶ 72,V/V/V,for hydroxy safflor yellow A),acetonitrile-0.01 mol/L sodium heptanesulfonate mixed with same quantity of 0.02 mol/L potassium dihydrogen phosphate (pH adjusted to 2.8 using 10% phosphoric acid,21 ∶ 79,V/V,for brucine and strychnine) at the flow rate of 1.0 mL/min.The detection wavelengths were 403 nm (for hydroxy safflor yellow A) and 260 nm (for brucine and strychnine).The column temperature was 25 ℃C,and the injection volume was 10 μL.RESULTS:TLC spots of Chebulae Fructus and Aucklandiae Radix were clear and well-separated without interference from negative control.The linear range was 6.29-62.94 μg/mL for hydroxy safflor yellow A(r=0.999 3),1.83-18.30 μg/mL for brucine(r=0.999 4) and 2.11-21.11 μg/mL for strychnine (r=0.999 6).RSDs of precision,stability and reproducibility tests were lower than 2.0%.The recoveries were 101.66%-104.91%(RSD=1.14%,n=6),99.58%-104.55% (RSD=1.75%,n=6) and 101.22%-104.04% (RSD=0.99%,n=6),respectively.CONCLUSIONS:Improved standard can be better used for quality control of Qiwei maqianzi pills.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the suitable temperature index to establish temperature-mortality model.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The mortality and meteorological information of Guangzhou between year 2006 and 2010 were collected to explore the association between sendible temperature, heat index and deaths by adopting distributed lag non-linear model to fit the daily maximum, mean and minimum temperature with and without humidity. Q-Q plots based on the standardized residuals of each model were used to qualitatively access the goodness of fitting. The minimum Akaike information criterion (AIC) and residual sum of squares (RSS) value were used to explore the most suitable temperature index for model establishment, and to further analyze the fittest temperature index for different diseases, ages and cold and hot effect.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Guangzhou features a subtropical monsoon climate, with an annual average temperature at 22.9°C and daily average relative humidity of 71%. The standardized residuals of all models followed normal distribution. For all death, death from circulation system diseases, the 65-84 years old aging groups and cold effect models, the daily average temperature fit better, whose AIC (RSS) values were the smallest as 11 537 (1897), 9527 (1928), 10 595 (2018) and 11 523 (1899), respectively. However, for death from respiratory system disease, groups aging under 65 years old or over 85 years old and hot effect models, the daily average sendible temperature fit better, whose AIC (RSS) values were the smallest as 8265(1854), 675 (1739), 8550 (1871) and 11 687 (1938), respectively. In comparison with the model controlling both temperature and relative humidity, different diseases, aging groups and cold and hot effect models fitted by sendible temperature index showed smaller AIC (RSS) values. The relative risk (RR) value of the cold effect lagging 0 - 3 days fitting by daily maximal temperature was < 1, and the RR value of it fitting by daily minimum temperature was > 1.04. The RR value of the hot effect lagging 0 - 1 days fitting by daily maximal temperature was < 1.16, and the RR values of it fitting by daily minimum temperature and daily average temperature were > 1.16.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>There were no best temperature indicators for different diseases, ages and cold and hot effect. The model using sendible temperature index better fit the model including relative humidity as a covariable.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the association between temperature and daily mortality from June 1, 2006 to December 31, 2009 in Guangzhou. Methods Time series approach was used to estimate the impact of temperature on the rates of total and cause-specific daily mortality. We fitted generalized additive Poisson regression using non-parametric smooth functions to control for the long-term time trend, day of week, air pollution and other weather variables. Results A slight sloping U-like relationship between the total mortality and temperature was found, with an optimum average temperature (temperature with lowest mortality risk) value of 19.7 ℃ in Guangzhou. For temperature above the optimum value, the relative risk of total mortality increased by 3.0% (RR=1.030,95%CI: 1.011-1.050) for each increase of degree in Celsius. For average temperature below the optimum value, the relative risk of total mortality and diseases of circulatory system had a 3.3%(RR=0.967,95%CI: 0.936-0.997 ) decrease and a 3.6% ( RR= 0.964,95%CI:0.935-0.994 ) increase,for each degree of Celsius increase, respectively. Conclusion Our findings showed that the temperature had an impact on the daily mortality in Guangzhou. Countermeasures needed to be taken to reduce the temperature related mortality.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the prevalence of suicide attempts and its related risk factors in Guangdong province to provide scientific basis information for suicide intervention.Methods Multi-stage stratified random sampling method was used to select the sample.42 sweets or towns were selected from 21 counties or districts through randomly sampling.4 communities were then chosen from every selected town or district,followed by 40 families chosen from every village or community.Questionnaire was used to collect data on suicide attempts and its related risk factors.SPSS 16.0 was used for data analysis.Results 6625 peoples were participated in the study.The 12-month incidence of suicidal attempts was 0.8%.It was higher for females ( 1.1% ) than that for males(0.5%) ,and the 25-35 years(1.6%) age group was among the highest.There was no significant difference between the prevalence rates in urban or rural residents.Results from multivariate analysis showed that factors as:being female (OR=2.1),experienced negative events of life (OR= 15.5),in poor sleeping condition ( OR = 1.6),feeling lonely (OR=1.5 ) and anxiety (OR = 1.8 ) were high risk for suicide attempts.Conclusion Suicide attempts in Guangdong province exhibited a high prevalence with complicated influencing factors.Comprehensive countermeasures are needed to prevent and reduce suicidal behaviors.

ABSTRACT

Objective To learn the spatial and temporal patterns of primary syphilis and secondary syphilis in Shenzhen and to provide evidence for carrying out further research on syphilis.Methods Primary syphilis and secondary syphilis cases among residents in Shenzhen between 2005and 2009(n=11 303) were geocoded at street office level (n=55) based on residence at the time of diagnosis. Both spatial and space-time scan statistics were used to identify clusters of street office by using SaTScan software. Results In the purely spatial analyses, clusters were seen in the junction of the Baoan district and Nanshan district (Xinan, Xixiang, Nanshan and Nantou street office) and in the region near Hong Kong (Dongmen, Shekou, and Futian street office), as well as in the other streets where entertainment industry was relatively developed (Longhua, Huafu, Huangbei and Cuizu street office). The clusters had not changed much in the first four years, but nine clusters appeared in 2009.Annually, the most likely clusters were located in Longhua (2005, P≤0.001, RR=3.34), Bamboo (2006, P≤0.001, RR=9.59), Huafu (2007, 2008 years, P≤0.001, RR values were 4.18 and 4.75)and Cuizu (2009, P≤0.001, RR=8.02). In the space-time scan analysis, we found 16 significant clusters, which were similar to the pure spatial analyses. However, regional difference were also found, with the most likely cluster was the Guiyuan street office in 2006. Conclusion Spatial and space-time scan statistics seemed to be effective ways in describing the circular disease clusters. We have had a better understanding on spatial and temporal patterns of primary syphilis and secondary syphilis in Shenzhen through spatial and space-time scan statistics of syphilis surveillance data in the recent years. The changes of spatial and temporal patterns of primary syphilis and secondary syphilis were also described by SaTScan software, which also provided useful reference for the preventive strategies on sexually transmitted diseases as well as on HIV. Useful information was also provided for financial investment and cost-effective studies.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the magnitude of inequities in health-related behaviors among males in Guangdong province, and to investigate the extent of the disparities. Methods Data sets available from the Guangdong Chronic Diseases and Risk Factors Survey 2007 are used.Concentration index (C) and concentration curve are employed to measure the differential of males'health-related behaviors across urban and rural areas in Guangdong. Odds ratios of 6 health-related behaviors among different areas are derived from 4 logistic models, after adjusting for age, married state, educational status, occupation and income. Results Results from Cs reveal that the inequality gradients disadvantageous to men in rural areas are: smoking(C=-0.075, P=0.000), alcohol intake (C=-0.023, P=0.002), blood pressure (C=0.106, P=0.000), blood sugar(C=0.114, P=0.000)and weight (C= 0.107, P= 0.000 ), while lack of physical activity (C= 0.044, P= 0.000) concentrates in the more affluent areas. The magnitudes of these inequalities appear to be higher on health-seeking behaviors than on health-risk behaviors. After adjusting for age and marital status, there is still strong evidence showing the rural-urban differences in the health related behaviors among males in Guangdong province. When educational status, occupation and income are added to the logistic model as control factors, the results have led to a loss of statistical significance on such rural-urban inequalities, indicating that socioeconomic factors play an important role on these health-related behaviors which leads to the inequalities among males in Guangdong province. Conclusion To reduce the gaps in health-related behaviors seen in the rural and urban areas, effective policies should be developed to change the social determinants of rural-urban differences in health and to strengthen the implementation of health-related programs on those vulnerable groups.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>Through questionnaire and screening, epidemiology of syphilis in pregnant women and related risk factors were studied, to develop effective policy and reducing the negative impact of the disease.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>All pregnant women who appeared at the hospitals the first time, were included, in Shenzhen city. Tolulized Red Unheated Serum Test (TRUST) method was used for primary screening and positive results were confirmed by the Treponema Pallidum Particle Agglutination (TPPA) test at the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention (SZCDC). Positive patients were informed and treated and the pregnancies were managed accordingly at the SZCDC.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>From 2003-2005, 418,871 (94.7%) pregnant were screened. Epidemiological and treatment data were collected from 2019 positive cases of infectious syphilis (0.48%). Among them, 94.2% were between 20 and 35 years old, with 93.6% of them had only junior high school education and 63.4% of them worked as commercial services or jobless which was significantly higher than other occupations (OR = 8.628). 89.5% of them were from other cities, significantly higher than from local residents (OR = 8.733). Gestational weeks at original diagnosis was longer and the infection rate higher.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The infection rate of syphilis in Shenzhen was still at a high level which was related to occupation, education level, place of residency, gestational weeks at first diagnosis etc. Further screening measures and early intervention were important.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effect of Yirong Oral Liquid (YROL) on reperfusion injury in rats with cerebral infarction undergoing thrombolysis.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Clinical reperfusion under thrombolysis was simulated by applying thrombolysis on reversible local cerebral ischemic rat model. In the rat model, effect of YROL on parameters concerning anti-oxidation capability, cerebral edema and ultrastructure of brain were observed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>YROL could alleviate the cerebral edema after reperfusion, markedly increase the activity of superoxide dismutase in blood plasma, decrease the content of malonyldialdehyde, inhibit the post-reperfusion lipid peroxidation, and significantly reduce the ischemia/reperfusion injury of nerve cells in brain of rat.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>YROL has definite protecting effect on brain.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effect of Bushen Yizhi Recipe (BSYZR) on neurotransmitter release in A beta segment neurotoxin induced NG108-15 cellular model of Alzheimer disease (AD).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The levels of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity, synapsin and functional synapse formation rate in the cellular model treated with BSYZR containing serum were determined by Western blot analysis, immunoradiometric assay and electrophysiologic technique.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>BSYZR containing serum treatment could cause increase of ChAT activity and synapsin level in model cells, as compared with those in normal control model cells treated with non-drug containing serum, it also could regulate the release capacity of transmitter and raise the functional synapse formation.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>BSYZR could reduce the reaction of cell to A beta neurotoxin, indicating that it could be antagonistic to the pathological development of AD by means of raising the neurotransmitter release capacity.</p>
